That's a neat way to do it....if I'm seeing it correctly.
Mada a jig out of the spacer so it (the bit) doesn't wonder in the intake...cool!
Did you "jig up" to drill the spacer?
Just used a normal drill press or do you have a milling machine?

This build is great, awesome the boy is getting his hands dirty and learning some great skills.
It is a milling machine. We centered the intake bore to the bit, then bolted the spacer, with the gaskets sandwiched in between, to the intake. Then bored right through everything.

Did we go full set-up lesson and teach him to swing an indicator on the table, check plumb to the intake gasket surface after mounting on the table, then find center of the bore with the indicator?

I’m digging everything about this build, especially doing it with your son.

Unfortunately no, it was all set up when we got there.
But he helped with everything else, including the clean up.

Clean up.....the MOST important lesson to teach!!!!
After safety of course.
This is BY FAR the most important lesson.
