well hoses are cheap enough and I see no reason why a v8 rad. won't work for a v6. Also not sure why I can't bolt up the stock th350 converter and use it behind the 4.3

I have a V6 stick 400 & a V6 auto 400. Stick is a plain-jane stripped down model & the auto is almost a full load truck (no PW windows or locks)
Did this. The stick truck is the pig. 50-60 mile round trip. Not fun!

Those V6 motor mounts are a major PITA!!! Had to drill a 1.5" hole in the frame to get at the bolts, then weld the hole back up after.
You might want to look into some adjustable mounts like the ones used for an LS swap. Not sure if they'll actually work, but if they do, that'll save you some headaches.

Yeah, the V6 mounts are not the easiest thing ever... I did it without cutting an access hole but I'm also a mechanic so I have all the tools to it that way.

the only one hard is the s10. I've already took the stock frame mounts off the k1500 ladt night, being 4wd it's completely open underneath and simple.

Yes hoses are cheap. I did not say radiator, I said radiator shroud. The depth of the shroud is incorrect for a v6. Turbo 350 torque converter is non lock up where the 700 is. I don't even believe that it will seat properly. Of course there are the obvious that you will need the computer and all of the engine controls for the v6 as well. I have all of the parts that I could do the swap for myself if I wanted to and I would never do it because it would simply be easier and cheaper to rebuild the small block.

guys the whole entire point of this swap is to save money. I can rebuild the old 305 I have for around 200 or so, no way I'm dropping coin on another motor.

s10 converter won't work, it's a 700r4 and the 4wd is th350.

If you can rebuild it for $200 that's your cheapest and easiest way. You won't need to play around with motor mounts or wiring, mush mashing parts for a swap nobody has done.

how the heck is 200 cheaper then dropping in a running engine?

I know the fan shroud needs work I can fix it or get another, lmc has them 80 tops, hoses 20 tops, as for the torque convertor, umm I meant run the th350 convertor in the th350 not mix and match. All I wondered is if the th350 convertor wil bolt up to the stock 4.3 flywheel that had a 700r4 in behind it stock. I would think it would work fine.

As for motor mounts, flat plate, exact same as doing an s10 v8 swap, bolt od weld to the frame, stock mounts bolt or weld to it.

The 88 has all the stock wiring and computer, the s10 has all the stock tbi wiring and computer so what kinda cost is there?

sorry to see everyone feels so strongly against the 4.3 no worries guess I'l figure it out myself. I'll make it work and if for some reason it does not work I'll redo the 305 and be done.

BTW the 305 was not stock in it, it was from a carb'd truck and needs normal stuff, bearings, rings, gaskets, oil pump, timing set, then I have a stock 350 flat tappet cam, just need a set of lifters. Yes I know the differences in carb blocks and older blocks compared to 1 piece rms, heads intakes roller and non roller etc.

Thanks for the help so far, guess I'll figure it out as I go along.

$200 is cheaper because its going to work at the end of the day bud. And $200 for the parts list you just put up is pretty ambitious.

And as far as your torque converter, it'll probably bolt onto the 4.3 just fine, I doubt the stall will be correct and I'd bet it's going to hurt the drive ability of your truck.

The reason everybody feels so strongly against the v6 is because they sort of suck. I know, I've had two. The TBI 4.3 with 5spd I had in my s10 was gutless, and that truck weighs alot less than a 1500. Sure it was reliable, got decent mileage, but no power.

I think not...

bearings, 20 a set from summit, 14 for cam bearings, that's 55

oil pump 20
timing set 20
gasket set 30
lifters 50, or 30ish from rockauto.
rings are 30 all from summit

that's a 185 or more depending on what you buy. rockauto has a complete re-ring kit for a 84 305 for $80, has gaskets rings and bearings, add on cam bearings, oil pump timing set, and lifters all from rockauto, $150, then I need 2 pistons, from summit $35 shipped. it's gonna be around 185 total either way.

anymore doubts go to rockauto and look it up or summit and see for yourselves I've been over it 5 times or more.

If I do the v6 I'll be out 2 radiator hoses, some steel plate and time. Then fab up something to make a good fan shroud.

so I guess we'll just see what happens. I'm not putting more into it then I have to, and I'm willing to take a 40 loss and time loss on rad hoses and steel plate to try it. if it fails I'll build a 305.
