Hoping to replace my 10 bolt with a 6 lug 14 bolt sf. Found one for sale ~4 hours away. Seller claims it is from a z71 3/4 ton. Was wondering if there is any possibility it is a 2wd unit? I need a 4wd unit. Is there any way to tell?

Also, will my stock ebrake bolt up to a 14 bolt?

Thanks,
Eric

Yes and no. Definitely no Z71 3/4 tons (at least in GMT400 series), but there are of course the C2500LD 2WD's with the 6 lug 9.5" 14 bolt.

So the problem is there are two different widths of 6 lug 9.5" 14 bolt, the narrower one from the C2500LD which is what you would want to swap into a 2WD truck, or the wider one from a Z71 optioned with the 14 bolt...which would suck for a 2WD, too wide.

I forget the measurements off the top of my head but do some searching, or simply go measure the width of your existing rear from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface, then go measure the seller's, and you'll know. It's like a 3~4" difference between 2WD and 4WD.

But yeah, main point is, seller has NFI what he's talking about so the best bet is to measure the thing yourself so you know what it really is. My guess will be it's from a Z71 with the F44 suspension package meaning it came with the 9.5", this is still a K1500, not a 3/4 ton.

When you say wheel mounting surface do you mean the part of the drum that butts up against to the back side of the wheel?

Just a side note if this ever comes up in a search, the 454ss used a 2wd 14 bolt sf and was a 5 lug.

Had the seller verify that it is 68" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. Other than the axle itself, what else is needed to complete the swap?

Axle comes with 3/4 ton leaf springs. Will I be able to use the u bolts from the 14 bolt on my 1/2 ton leafs?

What u joint do I need?

Will my factory parking brake bolt up? I have a manual transmission so I need it. If not, what is needed to make it work?

Thanks, Eric

U-bolts and the saddles will not work as the axle tubes are larger. You want new u-bolts anyway. I've seen people grind out their saddles but that freaks me out.

The light duty 3/4 ton leafs are a nice upgrade for a little more capacity and removes the sag I've seen on a lot of older K1500's.

U-joint...been discussed to death across many forums, do a little searching, sorry I don't remember the #'s but someone else here might.

Park brake should be able to be connected without issue, hopefully he didn't chop the cables and you can just hook it into your existing setup without disassembly.
