    Starter shim?

I installed a rebuilt Delco starter from 1994 last Saturday in my 88 350. The old NAPA unit was slow, but never made any grinding or whining noise. The Delco reman came with a shim in the box. I did not install the shim simply because the old starter did not have one. With the Delco starter, it...

    88 fuel gauge issue

After I bought this pickup from the original owner 14 months ago, I quickly found out the fuel gauge wasn’t working properly. (34 gallon tank). It would show full, and go down like normal to about 55%, and stop. It would never go below that. A few weeks ago I installed a NOS sending unit along...

    New starter fixes slow cranking.

I was having a slow cranking problem. Even a new Delco battery made hardly any improvement. I was suspicious of the starter so I ordered an older GM unit off Ebay. It was an OEM rebuilt by GM in 1994. Never installed. What a difference. It cranks so much faster now. The old starter I pulled out...

    Painting a different color.

I’m getting close to having my 88 K2500 painted. It still has the original Blue/Silver two-tone paint. After I purchased it I found previous owner spray canned over peeling on hood and roof. My intention is to have it painted OEM White. In my case the hard to get at spots are currently silver...

    Z71 questions

When was the 1st year for the Z71 decals on the bed? My guess is it was 89. I know the package was available much earlier, just without the decals. What exactly came with a Z71 package in 88?

    What is this?

This little junction thing looks factory, but I don’t know what it’s for. I think the previous owner had a trailer brake controller coming off it. A small beaker?

    Intermittent shutoff problem

I’ve had this pickup about 14 months now. It’s recently developed a very intermittent shutoff problem. It’s always right after starting it, and it will always immediately restart. It’s only done it 4 times over about 2 months. No codes on the scanner. All grounds have been double checked. Is...

    New shocks and Z-height

I replaced my old hydraulic shocks with Bilstein 4600’s. I think the old shocks were original. Is there any chance the new shocks could affect my Z-height dimension? I could swear I had it set at 5 1/2” and now it measures 6”.

New battery starter still cranks slow

I just installed a new Delco battery a few days ago. The old battery was a 6 year old Sears that the previous owner installed. My cranking was slow plus I killed it about a month ago by leaving the key on overnight during my valve seal replacement project. With this new battery, I’m only seeing...

    Door glass run

Has anybody changed a door glass run? I’m getting some wind noise that I think is coming from the driver’s diss window. I’ve already replaced the door seal which was also bad. Are the LMC door glass runs any good? They’re much cheaper than OEM.

    CV axle

I was bleeding my brakes yesterday after replacing some parts and noticed a huge tear in the right side CV boot. I think. I can see corrosion inside so I’ll go ahead and change the axle. I looked in my parts catalog and GM doesn’t list the whole unit, just individual parts. Are the part store...

    Restoring RWAL

Today I’m finishing up my RWAL restoration. After I bought this 88 a year ago, I noticed the brakes weren’t right. Front pads were like new. Rear shoes were low, I replaced with Delco. Better but still poor pedal feel. I actually did the RWAL elimination hack. It made things better, but still...

    NP241 oil

Anybody know off hand the capacity of a NP241? Mine has never leaked on the ground in the year I’ve owned it. But I just checked and added 1.5 quarts. Guess it was so low it couldn’t leak any more.

    F60 option

Does anyone have the F60 RPO option? The code says “Heavy duty front springs”. My 88 GM service manual shows a different Z-height torsion bar setting for F60 vs. non-F60 vehicles. I can’t find any information on what parts specifically F60 included.

    Fuel pump replacement

My next project is going to be fixing my fuel gauge. Since I need to get at the sender I will replace the fuel pump while I’m at it. It’s the original pump on this 88 350. I’ve done this twice in the 90’s, both times I dropped the tank. Everything I’ve heard is that removing the bed is much...

    Spark plug wire clips

Does anyone have the part numbers for the plug wire clips for an 88 350? I can’t find them in my parts catalog. I’d like to replace all of them.

    Dual batteries

Was there a factory dual battery setup in 88? I mean 2 12 volt batteries hooked in parallel. If so could some please share pictures? Since I live in a cold climate I could see this being a big advantage. You double the CCA’s with batteries hooked in parallel.

    TBI warm up

What is the normal cycle on a cold start? On my 88 350, after first starting it’s about 900-1000 rpm. It gradually increases over approximately 15 seconds, topping out at 1200-1250. Is this normal?

    Valve seals

Going to replace valve seals soon on my TBI 350. I’ve done this a few times over 20 years ago. What are the best seals currently available?

    Heater core cover

How many screws hold on the heater core cover in an 88? My manual says 7. I can only find 6 and I got the really hard one in the back out. But it still won’t drop down. I’m scared to pull on it too hard and break it.

    350 coolant disappearing

Trying to track down the coolant loss on my 88 350. I pulled the spark plugs yesterday and see no sign of burnt coolant. I’m gonna do a compression test this morning. If that doesn’t show any irregularities, what’s next? Everybody seems to think it’s a head gasket. I want to be damned sure...

    Steering gear

I was able to get a helper to work my steering wheel while I looked at the linkage. Rag joint is tight as can be, zero slop. All linkage from pitman arm to each wheel is tight as well. The slop is in the steering gear. I seem to remember a post about a way to tighten it up? Or do I just need to...

88 350 TBI cold start stumble.

Still fighting this thing. I got rid of the idle surge, it was the heat stove flapper in the air cleaner being stuck open. But I’m still getting 4 or 5 stumbles when it’s on fast idle 1200-1250rpm. After that everything is perfect. This morning I disconnected the evap canister from the TB and...

    Interior plastic repair

I have a few broken plastic pieces in my cab. The main problem is my cluster bezel. It has a couple cracks that go all the way through, and 2 of the mounting posts on the back for the light switch are broken loose. I would rather buy a new bezel, but I haven’t found one that’s not damaged. The...

    LMC part quality

I’m getting close to complete on the interior and power train on my 88. Getting ready to start on the exterior. My plan is to get a quality paint job probably by this summer. I need almost every other exterior piece as well (bumpers, mirrors, grill, side moldings, wheel well moldings etc.). I’m...
