What is the normal cycle on a cold start? On my 88 350, after first starting it’s about 900-1000 rpm. It gradually increases over approximately 15 seconds, topping out at 1200-1250. Is this normal?

Yes. At least mine does. Will high idle for a couple minutes then slow to a more or less normal idle. Mine also does not instantly fire when cold. It will take three to 5 seconds before it will catch and run. also normal.

Does yours take a while to reach peak high idle? That’s the part that I’m not sure is normal.

Yes. Never really paid attention to how long that takes but yes it is not immediate.
