    Engine paint

What all needs engine paint and what can I just use regular old spray paint on? As I’m building a new motor anyways I may as well shoot a coat if the good ceramic engine paint on it. I know block and heads need engine paint but what about oil pan, front cover, balancer, accessory drive, and...

    Bellhousing bolts

Probably a stupid question and worthy of the stupid questions thread, but I am fixing to make the hour drive to my nearest big box hardware retailer to grab 4 bolts and 12 washers so I can put my 4.3 rebuilder motor on the stand. I don’t have the old motor out yet so I can’t just grab a bolt and...

    Emissions delete vacuum lines

So I was going through the pictures I took of my 88 V6 as I was tearing down. It seems as though I forgot to take pictures of the vacuum lines. I am deleting my smog pump and EGR so those lines go bye bye. Does anyone know where my new lines should be going?

    T56 to replace 5 speed

I’m thinking really hard about swapping the 5 speed in my 88 for a T56 when I build the turbo motor. I see a lot of folks swapping the 4L60 for a T56 but the 5 speed not so much. Is there a reason for this? Also, am I looking at F body bellhousing/clutch/pressure plate or will I be able to use...

    Comp 240H

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-k18-115-4 Other than the website says no is there any good reason this cam kit won’t work in an 88?

    Oil pumps

Is a high volume high pressure worth it on these? Namely my 88 4.3 V6. Since I’m doing a very mild overhaul (rings, gaskets, and bearings, no machine work as the cross hatch is good, and journals all look ok and decks are relatively flat) I figured now would be the time while the engine is on...

Do we even call this a build thread?

So as I came upon my 88 plain Jane single cab long bed GMC, and consequently blew the motor, I decided to start an ongoing build thread as I have a few mods in mind for the truck. I didn’t get any before pics but here she is as she sits today. In the process of putting in a stereo, and adding a...

    Plain Jane stereo wiring

Putt ing a stereo in my 88 that did not have one. Found a 2 wire plug under the dash I believe to be the factory stereo power connected. Has a green and an orange wire. Which is ignition and which is constant hot?

    Oil cooler thermostat

So my little 4.3 in my 88 doesn’t have an oil cooler from the factory. As I am stabbing a motor anyways (and quite possibly swapping grill if all goes right) I’m going to go ahead and add one. On my old shovelhead Harley I have an oil cooler thermostat that bypasses the oil back to the filter...

    Roller pilot bushing

So since I’m pulling and replacing my 4.3 V6 in my 88 2wd 5 speed truck I’m wanting to put a roller pilot bushing in as frankly it’s my go to pilot bushing as they just seem to last longer and be smoother. Anybody have a part number for it? Or can I just use one for a small block?

    4.3 full length headers

Does anyone know of any full length headers that will fit a 2wd with a 4.3?

    Trashed my 4.3

So I had to get new tires on my 88 4.3 yesterday and coming home I overheated the motor. Had a full cooling system and was full of oil when I left. When I overheated I checked the oil and none present. Dumped 3 gallons of 50/50 in it, pulled the thermostat on the side of the road, and filled it...

    So this is my dash

So this is my dash in the 88 GMC V6/5 speed/ plain Jane truck I just bought. I would rather have instrumentation than idiot lights. What are my options other than Dakota Digital or a full custom gauge carrier? This is a work truck so I don’t want to spend a ton.

To SAS or not to SAS

So my 99 Suburban Hagrid has dome front end issues, namely an IFS actuator that doesn't actuate, a ripped CV boot, bad brakes, sagging torsion bars, bad ball joints, and needs new shocks and steering hardware. While I'm fixing all of that I had planned on a 2.5" torsion lift (keys and drop...

    2500 bars on a 1500

I have a 99 GMT400 K1500 suburban. Its box stock save for some bigger aftermarket sway bars and a fresh set of Bilstein shocks. Its a little bouncy riding for my taste, and I'm fixing to rebuild my front end anyways (all Moog parts except for some poly bushings) with NBS spindles and front...

    Locking console latch

Did the GMT400 suburbans/tables ever come with a lockable console latch? The latch on my suburban was busted when I got it and being in Texas I keep something in my console that really needs to be locked up when I'm not in the truck so I figure now is a good time to do it. Anybody have the GM...

    Old style backing plates

So, I'm tired of self adjusters that don't self adjust (even though all of the hardware is new and has a liberal coat of anti seize grease on them) so I'm wondering, has anyone tried to put the older 80s style rear drums on on a JB5 axle? Seems that's my biggest problem is my front are having to...

    Difference between JB5 and JB6

So, I bought a 99 Suburban with JB5 brakes according to the Chevy house as the tag on the glovebox is missing, (and sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find it) and the brakes suck. So far I replaced the leaking caliper on the front, new pads, new rotors, in the back I put in new wheel...
