I did a little searching but couldn’t find anything. I have a 99 GMC crew cab 7.4l drw and it runs consistent roughly around 160 or the middle mark on gauge (I know they give crap readings) but now that it has warmed up and I turn the a/c on the temp runs up to 210-220 when at idle as high as it got before I started moving again and it was maybe only five mins. I also know it has the old school fan system off the belt with a shroud around it. My question is has anyone mounted an electric fan in addition to stock on the front of the rad to pull the heat out or push more air through? Or should I be getting ready to replace other parts?? Thank you

There is a "pusher" fan that's mounted on the front of the radiator support, that some 454 trucks got. I see them occasionally in the yards. I'm kinda surprised that a big block crew cab dually wouldn't have one on it, but I think it was an option....

Figure out what is actually WRONG.

1. The engine should be warmer than 160 with the A/C off.
2. Turning on the A/C should not increase engine temp by 60 degrees.

What is the thermostat rating?
How old is the fan clutch? Does it leak or wobble? Does it ever engage?
How old is the radiator? How old is the coolant? Is the coolant level correct?
How folded-over and full of sparrows are the condenser fins?
WHAT IS THE HIGH-SIDE PRESSURE of the A/C system?
Does the engine have the auxiliary pusher fan? Does it work?

I know my buddies AC fins were almost flat from all the rocks, they make a tool to fix fins or a ziptie works but his was beyond saving. Vettes commonly collect debree between the AC & radiator.

1999 should have 2 coolant temperature sensors, 1 for the gauge / 1 for the computer, probably be a good idea to see what temp the computer is reporting.

Interesting that (according to my manual) 1999 trucks that did come equipped with the auxiliary electric cooling fan have a ON temperature of 225F

As if GM didn't consider temps below 225F worthy of the additional cooling.
