Looking preferably for scientific answers and opinions as to whether there would there be any benefit to longevity in Vortec L29/454 motors using oil with additives such as Lucas Hot Rod and Classic Car Motor Oil, especially the bottom end and top end, cam etcetera. I’m currently running synthetics but a respected mechanic friend has suggested the Lucas oil as better, especially because of roller cam in the L29. Thanks

That's backwards. Non-roller is what I hear could use more zinc/vitamins/whatever than what is typically in modern oils.

Also, from the Lucus website:
Lucas Hot Rod & Classic Car Motor Oil SAW 10W-30 is for muscle, showroom, classic and trophy cars without catalytic converters. It can be used in racing applications. Not recommended for passenger car use.

The Gen VI bearings have tighter clearances than earlier BBC. The roller cam is exactly why you DON'T need high zinc classic car oil. I run the VR1 oil in my 67 Buick 455, standard castrol 10w30 in my 80 K25 350, and Mobil 1 5w-30 in the L29. I broke the L29 in with Lucas 30w break-in oil, but that was in the middle of summer and only for the first 500 miles to seat the rings and get everything settled in well.
