not uncommon for the wolves to
Get to a vehicle in just a couple hours. I’ve seen sooo many destroyed door panels from guys just peeling up the corner of the panel to check for aftermarket speakers. Saddens me.

what yard is this by chance?

This is S&S 'U-Pull it' here in Lebanon Mo. It's only been up and running for about 6 or 7 months now, but they run a scrap yard next door that's been open for several years. I think there was a list of 15 GMT400 trucks/SUVs listed, but I found 3 unlisted, including the denali

Well, since last night I accidentally spilled a full cup of soda on the passenger seat/floor (thanks to the crappy RH cupholder in the dash) I broke out the extractor at work, and cleaned out at least the front. Floormats are hanging up to dry, but the carpet looks 10x better than what it did even before the spill

I'll probably end up wiping everything down in the next day or two to bring out the interior trim pieces, and give the old girl a wash soon. Kinda sucks to try and keep it clean when I live 7 miles down a dirt road.

Well I didnt plan on pulling the dash bezel today, but I got itchy fingers after getting mad at the Escape at work, so I decided to give up on it for today, and get to work on the old girl.
So I decided to install the dash pocket and pulled the CD player out (if anyone is looking for a working CD player, I've got one that works well, I just wanted a pocket more than a CD player.)

While I was in there, I decided to install the fog light switch and double switch bezel, but that was the scary part for me. Since this truck has a timeless conversion installed in it, the wood trim had to be modified in order for the switch and bezel to fit. And good lord, I hate modifying things that are 10 years old, let alone 23!

Unfortunately my worst fear happened, when I was cutting the opening out with a jigsaw, the wood split, and I'll let the picture speak for itself.

I will have to sand this whole panel down, and re-lacquer it, which I'm not too worried about doing, but I'm more worried about the damage. I'm wondering if some kind of filler would work? I'm not too sure, maybe someone has some experience with woodworking, and wouldnt mind offering some advice for this situation.

But I got the rough sketch done, and tomorrow at lunch, or after work, I'll smooth it all out, and make it look better before i strip it all down, and lacquer it.

But overall, I'm happy with the outcome, next step is to make a harness for the fog light switch (if anyone would happen to have a run-out diagram for the fog light pigtail, I would be grateful if I could snag it from someone) and then fix all of these lights that are burnt out

Glad you kept the wood instead of ditching it, looks good man. :)

I wouldnt scrap it for anything, and if something were to happen to any of the pieces in the truck, replacements would be made! But I appreciate it, thank you!

A few updates, I stayed after work once more (damn escape ended up needing a warranty engine, so that was how much day went. Pulled engine/trans, and replaced the long block, it's going back up into the car first thing in the morning)

But either way, made good progress on the wood trim, a good amount of elbow grease and some 60, 140 grit sandpaper took care of the damage I caused yesterday, and I also smoothed everything out, and got some sealer on it. Didnt grab a picture after I sealed it, but I'll take a picture once I make it into work tomorrow morning.

While I was there, I decided to go ahead and make a harness for the compass/temp mirror. 8' in length, just to make sure it's long enough to reach down to the power block under the dash. You can always take length away, but cant always add more. But either way, cleaned up some of the wires, crimped and then soldered the connections I made, and then labeled the other end of the harness. I may install it, temp probe, and the mirror by the end of this week possibly!

On a side note, I know the rockers/cab corners are pretty much gone, and I was planning on this coming summer to sand the truck down and do the body work/prime the truck for a professional to give the final scuff/prime/color. But I got an estimate for just the cab corners/rockers today at $1500. And that doesnt include color, that's just gray primer. I'm thinking that's way too steep, but I wanted to ask you guys to see if that's fairly normal?

Well I got restless, and instead of waiting until I pull the bezel again for the instrument cluster, and fog light harness install, I decided to install the trim back into the truck. I could've done a much better job at refinishing the trim, but until I decide to pull it all out, and refinish everything again, I think this will do fine

Loving the build so far!
Sucks about the pull it yard. I hate when people toss good parts around and/or break them trying to get to other stuff.

Agreed, seems like most people at the pick and pull dont care about anything but the parts they need. I've been guilty of it before by cutting a wire harness to get a particular part or something. Like when I grabbed my temp mirror, I cut the OHC console harness, but the plugs for the OHC were already ruined, and the OHC was trashed, so I didnt think someone was going to use it.

But either way, I'm heading up to see the girlfriend, and I'll be stopping by st Louis pick and pull to see what all they have. Online it looks like there may be some goodies! We shall see!

Well, I got itchy fingers again, and decided to install the new rearview mirror, and after the install I noticed I definitely grabbed the wrong mirror, I didnt notice while at the yard that theres a compass only, and then the temp/compass. I had thr temp/compass in hand, and swapped over to the compass only mirror due to being in much better shape. I'll be installing the temp probe either tomorrow, or Friday, and I'll grab a temp mirror this weekend. Also went ahead and made/installed a fog light switch harness, and now I just need to get some fog lights for the truck. But updates will follow once I figure some stuff out
