Winning in court is only 1/2 the battle. My brother, on the stupid advice of my other brother both took cars to a local body shop. A 72 340 Dart and a 64 Thunderbird. Long story short, after about 3 years and each probably giving him 6-8k, they took him to court. Easily won, but judge only ordered the guy to pay each about $25.00 a month, which he never even pays. They’ve been back to court multiple times, but it’s just a prolonged wasteful sh*tshow.

^^This. can't get blood from a stone and most familiar with gaming the system know this. Wage garnishment IMHO depends what's legal in that municipality. I always preach liability, more than some would like to hear no doubt, but usually it's from the shop perspective, but backyard deals with no paperwork puts it in the customers lap with little recourse.

My dad uses the exact same phrase Hipster. Erik, Caman, pressureangle, thanks big time here guys. I’d take him to court just to make sure he doesn’t **** someone else. I am on board to pull this motor and break it all down, this truck literally just needs a motor. New everything else, trans, suspension, shocks, brakes, AC. Would be stupid to junk it. Thank you sincerely everyone and stay tuned, this is a first for me.

To be honest, in all my years messing around with cars my biggest issue has always been finding not only a builder but a competent machinist. I have had a few machinist/ builder mishaps. You're guy is 70. maybe an ace in his day but things change.

I am sorry that happened to you.
It is a decades old scam that occurs in the car business and in the boat business.
These old predatory sweet talking liars take advantage of younger, less experianced people and women.
They are a bottom dwelling ******* plague that makes those of us who want you to be welcome to our little hobby feel like we have **** on our shoes.
My first reaction was to take that weak **** to court.
But, like everyone has mentioned.
You can legally ***** slap him into the dirt and get nothing but a lawyer bill.
It usually works like this.
The old bible saying. He is robbing peter to pay paul.
This guy cant warranty his work because he doesnt have any money.
The cash you gave him was spent on his food and bills and he needs another wallet to suck this month.
You need to take that engine all of the way back apart and start from scratch.
If he ****** you over on the money and the warranty just imagine what half assed ******** he did to the engine.

Along the way here, I have the stock 5.7 out of my '94 sitting on a pallet in Eastern Ohio. It has about 85k on it, new head gaskets when I bought it with 52k, shaved the heads a few thou to flatten them. Nice set of Comp rocker arms, 1.55 and 1.6 which with a flowmaster y-pipe gave it just enough whistle to say it was worth the money. If you want it, toss me a few hundred and go get it. I also have the spider etc. to put factory roller lifters in it if you wanted to go that way. It'll get you on the road quick and I can guarantee it's in fine shape.
