Ya I probably would actually do a 4l80e swap if I did a diesel swap. The only real reason I'm interested in this 6.5 swap is I found a cheap low mileage 6.5 diesel Z71 with the 4l80 and the pushbutton 4x4 it would be a direct swap no mods other then the exhaust. I got too pull my dash any way to fix a defrost problem. But if the 6.5 doesn't get all that good mpg I won't do it and from what I can gather there not all that better on fuel so may end up just putting in another used 5.7. I call my local GM dealer and they can't get a drop in replacement any more and call a couple shops and they all said 4 - 5 grand to rebuild my 5.7 plus install and taxes.
Sounds like you need to go to another GM dealership. Their are two different L31 goodwrench crate engines. A 2 bolt main that would fit your truck by VIN and have the long warranty and a 4 bolt main for a 1-ton that would have the generic GM parts warranty. They are both in the $2,200 range.

That would be nice but I'm in Canada and what's available in the state's sometimes isn't here they said they haven't bin able too get a 5.7 reman for years the last one they sold was three years ago and it showed it was $4700

Call Scoggin Dickies in Lubock, TX. I know someone that bought one from them and had it shipped to Canada. Atleast price it as it will give you an option. The Goodwrench engines are also NEW not remans.

Seems like you're not getting a lot of support on the 6.5 swap. Ill add in a little. With the diesel you will see slightly more MPG but like its said before its nothing to write home about. What is the best part is probably the price.
The price would make me rather swap the diesel than buy a new gas engine. Cheapest would be rebuilding the gas engine that you have now. Swap the diesel and the 4L80E. You'll like the transmission a whole lot more and you're getting a power plant with a lot less miles on it. Plus you get the rest of the parts truck that you could either make some money off or just keep in case you need anything.
Go for the diesel, tune it up slightly with some mild upgrades and i'm sure you'll be happy.

That was my thought the guy wants $1200 for the truck and it's got 241 km on it not sure what that is in miles and my poor old truck has 350+ km on it and motor is just worn right out its very tired. Just not wanting too spend $5000 on a motor rebuild. I'm so sick of Canada everything in this country is always double the cost of what it would be if I lived in the state's.Its going to the dealer on Saturday to see where this oil is pissing out of might just bandage this 5.7 and try my best to get another year out of it in a year's time I plan on buying a new truck.

The GM 6.5 cracks a lot. Every 100k miles you'll need new injectors. 100-150k miles an injection pump. If you want mileage do a 6.2 mine averaged 19 combined. My 6.5 is way faster but you'll be lucky to hit high teens with 3.08 axle ratio. I love my 6.5's and will keep loving them. But by no means can they be as fast as a 350 vortec

I bought my new gm goodwrench 4 bolt main from speedway motors (on ebay) for $2079 shipped to MN. Maybe they would ship to Canada?

They also like to crack in the block webbing and then break the crank in half.

The non turbo delivery van 6.5s were also ok in mileage.

Well I’ll chime in-and I’m a multiple 6.5 owner. The 6.5 is a fine platform for what it is. 400 foot pounds of torque, 200ish horsepower, and 17-20mpg. It is not a Cummins or a duramax. It had some flaws in 97-99 castings, but if it’s still running now, I wouldn’t hesistate after going though a few checklist items.

plan on doing a few upgrades to the motor, most are cheap. Fuel system maintenance and a spare pmd are important.

All that aside, since it’s a gas vehicle already, I would recommend looking at going with a 6.0 ls swap. It will be much easier to integrate the fuel system and electronics, and is widely and commonly done. You will spend a lot less time with wiring and other bits.

Aside from that..I love my 6.5. But I also have taken the time to read up and understand the motor and what it can and cannot do. Until you do that, I wouldn’t go 6.5.

400 ft/lbs and 18 mpg, a good running 350 Vortec can do that. Open up the intake, the exhaust and put a small RV like cam in it. Then tune it.

In all reality if he is selling the truck in the next year. Fix the oil leak and drive it.

If he wants a diesel buy a truck with a Cummins or a Duramax.
