I've towed 13,000lbs with my 96 K1500 Z-71 5.7L. It's got bags, an add-a-leaf, rear disc conversion, and it had worn out p265/75r16s Michelin M/S's on it.

I hauled about a yard of 3/4 crushed gravel in the back of my truck, it didn't like it either. I now have a slide in camper on my truck. I added two extra leafs over the original 4 +1 overload. I have the heavy half which comes with one more leaf then the regular half ton. I hardly squat now with the camper on. Plus I handle better in the wind. I pull my brother in laws 12 foot trailer that dumps. It's not a light trailer but I hard drop when I hook up to it too. I am going camping this weekend. I am going to get a weight on my truck with the camper on it. Just curious.

I just got to checking on my camper for the weight. It weighs 728 kg, or 1601.6 lbs. I know I am over my 6,600 lbs GVW. That is not including everything I loaded into the camper. It is a good thing I have a 14bolt sf instead of a 10 bolt.

i know this is a gmt400 forum but i had a 2007 silverado classic 1/2ton 2wd regular cab short wide bed with 5.3 v8, 4l65e, four wheel disc brakes and a spring overload in the back. i have towed 7500lbs of planetary axles on a 3800lb trailer rated at 10000lbs. it was well balanced tho. set the weight over the axles of the trailer to the point the tongue had maybe 400-500lbs on it. when i was stopping i started slowing down way back before i needed to. truck and trailer had brakes but still. i took my time and didnt get in a hurry. didnt torture the trans on take offs either. it can be done if you pay attention and are cautious. my .02

I weighed my truck on Friday with some of the things we take along camping. I weighed 8,646lbs. Not to bad for a heavy half ton with a 6600 lb GVW. I did get an empty weight on my truck. 5,643lbs.
