If I'm seeing that TV cable housing correctly...you need a new cable assembly. The plastic housing is distorted. Won't matter how you bolt it back, it's not going to sit flush on the trans case. The seal failed because the housing distorted.

That makes sense. Any tips on swapping out the cable?

Hook the bottom end first, then connect the top end. Adjust it carefully, and immediately pull over and adjust it if it's wrong.

I smashed my TV cable yesterday while installing my transmission. None at Rock Auto, none at O'Reilly, a $52 "universal" cable at Autozone, and NAPA shows a $21 cable which looks correct, but is labelled as a "kickdown cable". I may just go to the treasure yard.

If you have the correct cable, setting it properly is near foolproof: overtighten it, floor the gas, and it ratchets into the correct position.
