The temp gauge rolls all the way to 260 and then some I have a check gauges light on what is the best fix? Would replacing the cluster fix it?

If you unplug the wire to the sender and it drops back cold, all the way, that typically means that there is a problem with the sender wire or gauge causing it to read hot all the time. Otherwise, sounds like a bad sender. Any work done in that area lately? Make sure connection at sender is clean and tight.
