Maybe the aftemarket system install that's messing it up?

I'm guessing this is what's going on. I always pay a shop to do these, wish I could be more helpful. If you can, I'd take it to a reputable car audio shop and have them see what's going on with the aftermarket install. Chances are they'll be able to sort this out pretty easily.

That's also an option, but he mentioned that it was acting up and he cut it out. At this point it would probably be easier to re-activate the factory system or just buy a new remote start/keyless.

It's been 10 years since I used to install aftermarket alarms & keyless entries, but I'm pretty sure OBS trucks were a pain in the ass. I'd make sure to trace all the old wires from the alarm system you removed. Could be a split somewhere that needed to make a loop through the alarm or something. Wish I could remember more, sorry I'm not more help lol
