I picked up a truck that is in decent shape that i want to start making into a fun toy.

I found out the truck has 3.42 gear, which with bald 265/75/16 tires is a dog. It has a newer crate 350, but still not a lot of power. I plan on doing a small lift and running 33-35s.

I think I am going to attempt to change the front/rear gearing myself down the road. Would it be worth my time to seek out a stock set of axles and pull some 4.10 or 4.56 or just go new? With it being a 90 I am sure I might as well do seals and bearings while I have it apart.

I personally have never seen lower than 4.10 in a 1500. I would do 4.56/33 or 4.88/35 but I rarely go over 65mph.

Are you talking about stock not seeing below a 4.10?

yeah stock. ive never seen 4.10s in a half ton but i know some have em. with 33s id do 4.10s and 4.56s with 35s. depends on how you drive, speed, where you do most driving (intown or highway).
