Do you still have reverse?
If you do, chances are the sunshell is still okay.
Did you pull the governer?
You can do it with the trans in the truck.
It has a plastic gear on the end that is a known failure point. Make sure its okay and make sure its stiil attached. The whole thing spins in the case and also is a valve. All that needs to work.
The throttle valve itself might be sticking.
I would jack up the ass end, pull the goverer and make sure its good and clean it.
put it back together
Run it on the stands in reverse for 15 minutes or so to try and backflush it.
Just be carefull chock the **** out of the tires.
Dont drop it dude
If that doesnt work, pull the pan again and see if the throttle valve is sticking
They are kinda known for it.
The most hated transmission in gm history
But, they are just temperamental.
They work just fine, once you learn how to hate on em

And I wanna add, dont get discouraged.
You pulled a 700R4 and rebuilt it yourself with no experiance.
Thats awesome big balls ****.
Most guys wouldnt even try it.
Even if it doesnt work out, yer a badass shade tree wrencher for trying.
Thats how we learn, and thats how we send knowledge down the road to the next guy

I pulled the governor and it looked okay, the weights clicked in and out and the valve moved. I still went in reverse and it still moved forward, so there’s something there. I’m gonna set it up on stands and see what I can do tomorrow. Yeah it just sucks cause I got the motor and everything dialed in and the Tranny just doesn’t wanna play ball, I’m gonna give it another shot. I don’t have another transmission lined up so I’m gonna have time to tinker with this and see what can be done.

I’ll try what you said and put it in reverse for 15 minutes and see what it’ll do. Thanks for your words of encouragement, I appreciate it

Keep at it. They are frustrating evil transmissions untill you get them figured out.
Then they are just evil.
I have about 238K on my 4l60E but it requires a lot of care to get there.
Like I said, Ive smoked a couple of them.

Cool, I know you said you replaced the TV cable.
Is that a gm part or aftermarket?
Its sure starting to look like a tv valve problem ( hopefully)
If its a full rebuild kit, the only other thing I can think of is a check ball sticking in the seperator plate.
There is one that will mash out the hole I just dont recall which one it is.
I just remember it causes shift problems.
Ill dig a little deeper when I get a chance.
Im pretty rusty on this stuff so a refresher class looks like a good idea

You put the shifter in "R", and the tires turn FORWARD?

If it was ONE wheel turning forward with the ass-end jacked up, I might think it was just the differential.
