Hey guys i just finished building a 350 vortec for my truck.. Long story short i have 0.30 speed pro flat tops in it its calculated out to be 9:91 so i think basiclly 10:1 compression would i be ok running 93 octane from experience does a 10:1 motor run pretty good on pump gas? 93 of course?

Should be fine, as they ran on 87 with 9.5:1 from the factory. What cam did you use?

Yea, you should be good, we have run 93 up to 10.8:1 with good results on vortec heads. ANY higher than that, and you start eating starters and having detonation problems.

It also depends on what camshaft profile you run as a larger camshaft will bleed off some cylinder pressure. ( More duration )

Re-phrase lol, you start eating good starters at 10.8 lol. I could see the stock ones wanting to give up. Never really had any dealings with stock ones, those mini super starters are cheap.

I immediately went to a hi torque mini starter when the stock one went out. Knowing that the 383 is just a stepping stone to something bigger

Your mom's
My zero decked 10.2-1, 362 cube SBC with coated Speed-Pro hyperutetic pistons runs right as rain on 91 octane -straight out of the pump gas- with 12 degrees base and milled 882 heads.
.492/.492 lift and 228 degrees of duration. I'm not looking at the cam card right this second, but that sounds about right. Stock starter.

I'm not certain "duration" is the right word above, I would think that "overlap" would be preferred regarding 'bleeding off' cylinder pressure.

My opinion is that 93 octane is probably overkill without knowing your elevation above sea level.
