Is this bed cover worth keeping?

Well guys the bed cover was total trash. Painter said its not even worth fixing cause its so rusted. Ended up ripping out sheet metal to try and find a new sheet and slide it in bed cover frame but nobody has sheets this wide. So going to have to weld two pieces together. But steel is only like 18 guage so im afraid that it will warp. Here the pics

You could probably find (or make) a sheet of fiberglass that will fit in there.
