I’m finally ready to install my 406 in my 98. Has anyone tried successfully to install an engine in a GMT400 with long tube headers already bolted on? Trans is slid back so I can drop onto the mounts.

Save yourself the headache and put them on after. The mount bolts can be a pain to reach without putting extra stuff in your way. Wiring up the starter too.

If they're known asspain to install headers I'd be more inclined to lay them in the truck and then drop the motor in.

Leave the starter off the motor, drop the engine in, drop the headers in. Bolt the engine up, bolt the headers up, bolt the starter up.

I dropped it in without them. Went good. It’s not that bad to slide them in after. Thanks all.
