Ah yes, the dreaded " I'll have extra crispy please" . Well at least it didn't start a fire. If the wires , copper, is ok, you could slip some shrink tube on it, or some of that silicone wrap that sticks/ bonds to itself. That was your smell and or visual ( smoke?). But what started this result, what is the connector control input that circuit. Controlling what powered item ? Was the fan that quit the cause?
