RE: Vortec small block intake gasket failure. First post says it has 260K on it. If that's the original engine then the gaskets failed 100K-150K miles ago. They may have been replaced and failed again...or it could be a used engine that got installed and they've failed on that. OR...bigger problems.

Tear yours down first, that way you aren't out anything if it is just intake gaskets.

As far as a mud truck goes, if all you want to do it play in the mud a 6inch rough country and good mud tires you will be fine. If you want to play off-road, rocks, hills, etc. you'll break more crap than whats it is worth. Start with a 6inch RCX and maybe you'll find the need for an SAS down the road.
