engine light for transmission?

driving my truck to the shop to swap the tranny out and i got a check engine light. would a slipping tranny cause the engine light?

Yes...on OBD2 anyways....My 97 got a code P1870 when the tranny was slipping

Might want to scan it anyways, just in case it's not that for sure.. But yeah these transmissions are connected, at least in some aspects, to the OBDII.. I got a check engine light when my shift solenoid went
