hangers aint cheap, last I saw like 150 or so. that's not cheap IMO.

I would think removing, drilling and bolting would be fine. we've replaced many with bolts.

the next thing you have to factor in is how much wiggle room there actually is for the hangers to move up. and then get the holes all drilled while keeping everything square so you truck goes down the road straight.

just depends on your level of fabrication I suppose like I said anything is "possible"...... but I just went out and had a look at my truck and the top bolt for the hanger is probably less than an inch from the top of the frame, so that being said you won't be able to move it up enough to make a noticeable difference, unless you were to only use the bottom two holes and then weld the rest.... but as said before trouble/safety vs cost, I would go with the drop hangers imo

Yea I see the drop hangers really have the mounting location of the spring higher up and the bolts holes lower if I'm correct? So you get a lot more lowering action by buying the hangers I guess

correct they move the spring up instead of the hanger and yes you will get around two inches from them.... but don't be fooled I think they would be easier than custom mounting your stock ones, but they are still a ****** to install

Orrrr, if you REALLY want to go cheap without redrilling, just go to your local yard and snag the stock hangers from a Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban. The frames are different for the SUVs and they use hangers that put the spring head right next to the frame, just like the aftermarket ones to drop a truck. I had no trouble with the driver side bolts on mine or my buddies trucks, just bent the tank strap a smidge and was able to get my hand and a short socket in there (I've got big hands). Granted, I used aftermarket hangers on our trucks, but have dropped two others with stock SUV hangers since they were on a small (almost nonexistent) budget. Worked like a charm and haven't had any problems. Just be sure to use grade 8 or better bolts.

If you go any more than 4", I would say that you would need to do a mini-notch on the frame, & maybe the box cross member. Unless it's a long box, which apparently doesn't need that C/M notch.
