On my 96 when you turn the dash cargo light switch on then the light will come on if you open the door and when the dome light switch is turned on, but if the dash switch is off then it doesn't come on at all. I am glad because there are times I like to kill all the light's at night if I need stealth mode for some reason.

Exactly what mine does, sounds like it should be normal. If I turn the switch off it won't come on at all.

Neither one of my trucks cargo lights work. Never have since I owned 'em. Tried to fix the '98's one time. The bulbs are burnt, & they are practically welded in there. So, I'm in the process of modifying a Suburban's 3rd light to fit the stock housing. Nothing but brake lights are gonna be in there.
