How much farther back can the bar go? I want to keep my bench seat and need to keep the seat as far back from the steering wheel as possible.

It's as far back it can really go. Otherwise you won't be able to put that rear panel on.

If I ditch that rear panel and cut out that stamped sheet metal behind it (not sure what that thin stamped metal is even there for) can it go farther back?

Great! I'll keep you in the loop. Hopefully I'll have it available around March this year, maybe sooner. The first autocross event is that month so I want to at very least have my prototype ready for it.
