Not much of an upgrade: only5A... If you're gonna do it, do it right. Spec out a 250A unit from a sound system site, or folks who do HAM radios

Below are my notes from putting an AD244 on my 1998. I used a Remy p/n 91653 but any one should do.

Simply get the AD244 140A alternator for 99-04 trucks, it has the same plug as the 96-98 Chevys; it’s a bolt-in replacement.

Also get a belt. Goodyear Gatorback belt # 4060967 (96.75”) works but is tight, needs to be longer; Perhaps 4060970 (97")or 4060975 (97.5”)

This dual alternator kit looks like a problem waiting to happen.
:badidea:

I don’t expect the original bracket will manage for long those two heavy alternators, perched high above, each secured with only one set of ears on the OEM accy bracket.

I wonder if it comes with a courtesy AAA membership.

Hey, if it sells….

Made from 3/8 steel

I was looking at the lack of significant wrap at the compressor.

Now that you point it out, that’s “fail #2”.

They should have mounted yet another idler pulley just below and to the left of the compressor (in the picture, there’s a boss there… I always wondered why it’s there), and snaked the belt from the alternators over-down-around-idler-up-and-over the compressor. (Edit) Ok, that wouldn’t work. See the problem?

Seriously now: Were OEM dual alt kits offered on a GMT400 engine? It would be interesting to see a picture.
