96 sierra 700r4 problem

hi i have a 96 z71 4x4 with a 5.7l and a 700r4 but when i put it in drive it starts moving at like 4500-5000 rpm's but if i manually shift it or put it in revers is works just fine i don't know what is wrong with it though any ideas?

You should have A 4l60e not 700r4

Idk how you could...don't know how you'd haves detent cable on a vortec

On another note, did the P.O. tell you anything about the truck? Why they put a 700r4 in?

you know what i ran the numbers on the tranny and it is a 4l60e there was some nonsense on the side that sed 700r4 but do you know how much the filter would be i know my neighbor has the same truck and he drained the fluid and changed the filter and it cost him like $80 in just fluid
