I just burned up the 2nd 4l60e in my truck this one was supposed to be good from the shop. I got to eat it cause the shop closed down before I get everything buttoned up due to work and all. I got my original core that burned the 3/4 gear up.

Im fixing to open it up and redo it. Im looking for info on keeping it working good cause Imma be running 35s on the truck. Not alot motor wise just a stock rebuild cause I didnt wanna deal with the figuring out the tuning aspect of it.

any tips?

(trucool 40k will be added as well as a gauge)

Check out Oklahoma Transmission Supply. When I rebuilt my 700R4 I discovered they had better prices, but their online game is weak, so you have to go to their website, research what you want, and give them a call. They have all the parts and all the upgrade parts.

Download/buy/borrow every 4L60E manual you can find. I downloaded the factory manual, bought the SA Design GM Transmission overhaul manual, and had my Harper-Collins Automatic Transmission textbook from college. I had all three open on my toolbox so I could refer to them while building. The Harper-Collins has an exploded view of the 700R4 that was invaluable during reassembly - I don't think it has the 4L60E, but 90% of the transmission is the same. I would love to find a series of true step-by-step books with close-ups showing seal facing, etc.

This guy's 700R4 video is excellent. It's an hour and a half long real-time transmission build. When the books failed me, I looked his video up. You might want to check out his 4L60E videos.

Take your time and pay extreme attention to detail. Expect to take two steps forward, three steps back, repeatedly.

Great advice from @Erik the Awful I've watched videos from the last link and the guy is very knowledgeable. Here's another source:

Are you without the truck at the moment? If you have enough time and are not relying on your truck for basic transportation, I'd say jump into it. It's intimidating at first, but that's normal. It's a learning process, like everything else in life. Attention to detail, being organized and methodical will help you out a lot.

Another thing to consider is taking apart all of the "sub-assemblies" first. Don't worry about what the clutches look like when taking things apart at first (that's first gut instinct I wanted to do.) Sub-assemblies are the pump, valve body, various drums, etc. Then you can work on each of those subassemblies one at a time and everything will seem easier, especially during reassembly. Also important to learn the terminology of what parts are called.

Get a master rebuild kit, but expect to order some bearing, drum, or sprag and wait for it to arrive in the mail as you disassemble, clean, inspect everything. Have enough room to take everything apart and lay it out on a table. Have another area for disassembly of individual parts and return them to your work area. A parts washer helps a lot, but I use a 5 gallon bucket with mineral spirits and a brush as a getto parts washer, LOL.

Good luck!

flush or replace your rad/transmission coolers. avoid YouTube. head over ls1tech forum, there are lots of good info and "recipes". get ready to spend money or you will be back in the same place in short order. if you are looking to buy a complete kit, along with telephone tech support talk to Dana @ Probuilt Automatics. I have used him for the past 10 years.

this should get you started:
