So I have a 1992 GMC K1500 5.7l/700r4. About a month ago, I checked the oil and had a milkshake on the dipstick. I parked it, hoping it was just a intake gasket. I pulled the intake and it does not appear to be leaking from there, so probably a head.

Since the engine already felt a little lacking in power, and with the low cost of GM's crate engines I think I am going to put a L31 long block in it.

I think I have already read every thing I could find on swapping a L05 to L31 on Google, but I thought I would post here in case I missed anything.

My tentative parts breakdown:

L31 HD Long Block - $2070.99

Jegs Dual Plane Manifold - $134.99

ARP Bolt Kit - 189.00
http://www.jegs.com/i/ARP/070/534-9504/10002/-1
Bypass Oil Adpater - 26.99
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/23605/10002/-1
Melonized Cam Gear - 41.99
http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/19052845/10002/-1
Intake Gaskets - 14.06
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/210003/10002/-1
Custom Chip from TBIChips.com - 275.00
46mm Throttle Body - 499.00

I am using all my accesories, headers, starter, etc of the old engine.

I am thinking with the headers, no cat, bored throttle body and tune I will be over 350hp and 400tq.

My questions are, how does the driveability of the L31 compare to the L05 for those who have already done the swap? And are there any other parts that I could need to complete this swap?

Looks like you'll need a carb/tbi adapter plate. You'll probably need more fuel and more fuel pressure too.

Yeah, I am planning on upgrading the stock fuel pump, and regulator spring as per recommendations from Brian at tbichips. The adapter plate is also included with the new throttle body from tbiparts.com
