I have a 1995 k1500. In March 2016 the 4l60e started knocking at idle and while driving, (shifted smooth as silk though) so we had it rebuilt and beefed up a bit so it would last. It always did shift a bit rough after the rebuild, not sure if that's a trans or ECU problem. Anyways, the knocking is starting to come back under heavy tourque (but it is hardly noticeable) and you have to listen really hard to hear it. I'm about fed up with the 4l60e so I'm thinking about swapping a 4l80e or a 5 speed manual (nv4500?). Just wondering what would be required for each swap and which one would be worth it in the long run. I want it to last more than a year this time.
