4.3 vortec questions

Alright, have a friends truck. Its a 98 4.3 vortec and im looking to just pop in another 4.3 for him. Found a newer 4.3 for sell low miles, they say its out of an 06 silverado. Will it work in the 98 all the same? Or am i going to have to find one from the same era?

I vote no, but I don't know for certain. I would seek advice from sources outside of this msb.

I believe that you'll need one with a 'W' in the truck's serial number.
At least that's what I was told to look for when I had the idea of replacing my V6.
That was just a passing idea, though.
Wasn't worth the effort for the end result. Lol!

you need a 98, they changed engine design since then

I believe the shortblock is still the same, but everything else would have to swap over. Intake, accessories, etc. Not sure about the heads but I'd imagine they'd be different as well.
