L31MaxExpress' point was that any Chevy head can make 350 hp. I think your engine builder was talking in generalities when he said "300 hp head".

As for the rest of the conversation, it's all the Theory of Constraints. When it comes to low end torque, the head matters less because you're not maxing the flow out. At a high rpm the flow through your heads is the constraint, but at a lower rpm the heads can flow plenty and the camshaft is the constraint. However, if you maximize the camshaft for low rpm torque the camshaft can become the constraint at high rpm.

Exactly at lower rpm there is more time for the cylinder to fill.

Update all. Welp my headers aren't made for straight plug heads, my factor a.c. lines sit in top of the valve covers 2 bolts 1/2" + off. New remote filter system. LOVE MY TRUCK. She home

#1 issue a.c. lines over valve cover. Ready to delete it and just is it for a belt drive now until later. Haven't run it in 10 years. And the header issue kicking my ass

I'd get rid of the silly tall valve covers before I deleted a useful A/C system.

Apparently you need different headers...or different heads.

I got lucky. My "angle plug" heads fit my Edelbrock shorty headers so well that plug access/clearance is marvelous. The only plug I can't just reach down and cram a spark-plug socket onto, is #1, and that comes out with a 5/8 box-end wrench.

Welcome to hotrodding, crash course 101. Improvise, adapt and overcome or spend big $$$ to buy parts to do the same.

Clutch fan with the later 11 bladed plastic fan would be my way to cool that beast, but that is just me. Cheap and effective. Use the later Tahoe/Suburban 34" core radiator and matching shroud. Then install the OE oil cooler adapter and lines to help keep the engines life blood the correct temperature year round.

Worked on the oil cooler This factory set up does not use a separate cooler, it is built into the radiator, just hade hoses made pics coming next. And as far as using the bigger radiator mine is. Nearly 41" from plastic length end to end. Right at 2 3/8"+ core thick.
