Without knowing more specifics such as engine cubic inch (LO5 5.7L, L19 7.4L, or L65 Diesel, SE, SLE, etc.) and brake shoe diameter size, may I suggest replacing your Rear Brake Drum Backing Plates in a pair since they are probably pretty rusted and worn (as you have suggested)?
And that you check in your glove box for either RPO code numbers JD6 or JD7 on your 3/4 ton vehicle so that you obtain the Correct Brake Drum backing plates both (Drivers and Passenger side) for your Suburban vehicle. That way, when reassembling the new brake drum hardware, everything will fit correctly without any problems. Do keep us informed on your progress. And Good Luck. And as an example the following was added for your perusal.

Very much appreciate the advice on changing backing plates in pairs when neccessary. Fortunately they are solid on the suburban. My anecdote on rust was slightly off topic as it was regarding a 4runner (although it was drum brakes on that axle and got new backing plates).

Suppose i should be listing more specifics on the vehicle. May have a friend at a chevy dealer parts counter that can pull part numbers for me if I'm having trouble finding them.
