Howdy folks - I come to you with freshly scabbed over hands, and a fair bit of discouragement, although progress has been made. At present, I can lock and unlock with a key, but the pushrod to attach to the interior door lock is not attached. I have picked up the retainer clip many times with a magnet when it falls to the bottom of the door. My question is whether anybody knows of an alternate, maybe a plastic one? I'm looking for anything that will keep these pushrods from popping back off of the latch mechanism, besides the factory clips that have to be placed just right, blindly, then the rod inserted, then pushed into place to lock the rod in. Any guidance or thoughts are most appreciated.

Absolutely not trying to sound snarky - but it sounds like an assembly procedure issue and not a parts issue. Most of us aren't having this problem. Can you provide a little more detail on which exact piece is popping off, and someone can surely provide suggestions?

The retainer has a small tab with a thumb nail protrusion on it that goes on first with the split in the retainer facing away from the rod and the thumb nail protrusion MUST lock into the hole in the actuation lever

Those metal clips are terrible, but they work. You can buy them in a 15 pack.

  • ($1.66/Each) $1.66
  • ($1.63/Each) $24.45
Those are not the correct clips. Au-ve-co has them for less money and there are two different thicknesses depending on year. If any one is interested I have a box of each in the shop and I can get the P/N's

YES!!!! I would absolutely be most grateful, mine is a 1998 k500, 5.7L. I can see that this has to be the exact right one or it won't lock the rod in properly

Yes, that's it - the ones I'm having trouble with are the ones on the door latch itself that the pushrods attach to going horizontally back over to the interior lock, and interior handle. I got the outside handle attached to the latch properly, but the pushrods that attached to the latch, inside the door, it seems like there's no way to visualize it in such a tight space, and I'm pulling the metal that's attached by the bottom screws only, back towards me to open that space up, and it's in turn pulling on the window attach hardware, etc. At one point I had that metal panel completely off and the window propped up with a 2X4, the put it back together starting with putting the wheels back into the window's metal attach bracket. Anyways, thanks for the diagram, really appreciate your guys help with this.
