is there anyway to keep a vortec head swao and still pass emissions? i keep hearing about the egr theres no way to keep it with vortec heads, and that gas milage will suffer. i care more about gas milage then not passing emissions :Nonono: i mean i hate to pollute ca is so restrictive i even keep my cats. to be nice. haha but anyway beck to my question id love to pass emissions and id love to keep a real egr system to keep the gas milage. also any write up of specific parts? intake? gaskets? i really want to get info before i just jump in. oh and best casting numbers.

Yes there is. Im currently doing a full vortec l31 crate motor swap in my 1995 and will pass emissions no problem. You will need the gmpp intake for vortec to tbi part number 12496821 but its like 369.00 at jegs. It has a plumbed hole for the egr. You will need to buy some exhaust manifolds from a junk yard for a 96-99 vortec. It has the egr fitting and hose and will plug right into the intake as well as running your egr valve on the intake as well.

Im also in the Bay area and have researched this to make sure I will pass smog. You will also need a chip from tbichips.com

Im assuming this is for a tbi truck right?

Great another bayarea member! Let me first say welcome aboard.

But a few questions I have is that I heard that the egr won't work because it has no way of getting out of the intake and going into the heads. I could be wrong though, but also I have headers there smog legal and I would really like to keep them. Is there anyway I could plum the line in?

The egr will work. The egr mounting hole and the hose hole both flow out the intake for sure into the heads. I was running my blow gun through there to find out where each plumbed hole went.

My headers had a 02 sensor ********* that was threaded and I made that work with some fittings. If you dont have a ********* then you could have one welded in.
