Ditto!I have one and it's great.
I had a similar issue with my truck. There’s a guy in Florida that fixes the CDM unit for $125. His name is Bob. He has several YouTube videos about radios , control data modules and how to remove them. The CDM in your truck is likely the culprit.Watch his video. You can have the CDM out of your truck in less than 20 minutes. If you can find a unit in a scrap yard bonus. I had mine repaired as I wanted the original one back in www.CarStereoHelp.com. Hope that helps.93 Suburban Cheyenne 4wd factory radio powers on and changes functions but will not raise or lower function setting such as incresase volume or tune stations. Not checked fuses yet but thinking it is the amp/brain box. Doesn’t have tape or CD. Considering ditching factory for dbl din but hate the look of those install kits that loose the cupholder. Also I would like to keep original radio on this restoration.
I would do the aux input hack if I repair OE radio. What amp do I need? Is there a complete list of what amp are compatible with my head unit?
I would also consider buying a new retro radio but all that I found I have rotary dials and don’t match the 93 pushbutton look.
On another note I posted in the welcome thread for n00bs.
It becomes irrelevant.I'm looking at the retro sound after having the typical issues with my 90 that I just bought. Does the retrosound use the factory cdm/equalizer under the dash or does that become irrelevant with the upgrade to the retro sound?
It becomes irrelevant.
The only reason I went with retrosound is because I couldn’t find my cdm box, and I didn’t want to buy one. I wanted a look that was similar to stock. Glad I did it.Thank you, that's what I was hoping!
When I said I couldn’t find mine, I meant I couldn’t find where I put it when I put an aftermarket radio years ago. It was in my old shed but I’m afraid I chunked it when I moved, along with the cassette player & dash piece it goes in. The only thing I have left from factory radio setup is the head unit. The CDM is right under the steering part of the dash. Looks easy enough to pull out. I bought a factory headunit off ebay, my old one would turn on but wouldn't function normally etc so I was pulling the old one out and started running out of daylight when it occurred to me that the issue is likely the CDM, I plugged in the "new" factory radio I got off ebay and it didn't even turn on. There's only two speakers in this truck, not trying to go crazy with a sound system, just want a functioning radio that retains the factory look!
I hear you, and feel your pain. My 1990 has the factory radio. It works, but FM volume is very low, compared to the AM stations, so I've been driving around for months, listening to one AM station that is not talk radio, lol. Recently, I noticed the clock is not keeping the correct time. The CDM is right under the steering part of the dash. Looks easy enough to pull out.
