From what I heard from my Mopar friend, they typically corrode and the resistance goes up. The headlights get dim, and eventually the ammeter won't pass enough current for the vehicle to start. But, yes, they can cause fires.

Did you watch Lawrence Tolman take out his new supercharged 4.8 COPO truck for a spin? That thing looks like is going to be a blast. I think I would have just done a RWD instead of the AWD, but LT is a bit unorthodox... it's all good.

That '06 Denali of my Dad's, when it was running right, would too. VERY surprising,for a 6,000 pound fullsize SUV, but the 6.0 and 3.73 gears in the diffs did their jobs. I would get it back running, but there's too much wrong with it for me to fixI watched that last night. It sure does boogie off the line with AWD.
