First thing you have to know what end result you want. Fill in the low notes that the other speakers don't do well or do you want to thump the paint off the truck?

The 4x6 speakers don't reproduce bass notes well at all so a sub is a great idea.

I put an amplified 10" sub in a box and it meets my needs for my crew cab. I just wanted to hear all my music on the highway with the windows down.

That fills in really well for me.

I had 14” subwoofer in a Dodge single cab D100. Blew my eardrums out, and got noise violation tickets from it. I have a Goodwill 12” sub in the Tahoe, fills in my need for loud music with half decent sound. No idea the brand, might be Alpine. Need to find an amp at that Goodwill, they’ve got good audio equipment sometimes

I recently put a Rockville powered 10 in my daily, and was very surprised with it's bass output. My days of big speakers, and boxes are long gone, and need the space, but the Rockville is a good compromise.

Well, if it was me doing under back seat instead of center console. I would do multiple smaller drivers. Here's why......
Bass is just the action of moving air, so that's why a 15" sounds louder then an 8". It simply moves more air! So with that being said, instead of a 10" upwards or downwards firing,I would do (2) 6 1/2" forward facing. If you want (2) 10", then do (4) 6 1/2". Find the right driver and the box should be smaller and have the ability to be ported. With 10" or12" drivers there won't be enough airspace under the seat to get ported. Just have to put a tape measure on it and figure your airspace and that will tell you how many drivers..... and this is just my opinion.

These aren't a gmt400, but it will give you the idea.

Agreed. And why arguably the industry standard for a bass amp is an Ampeg SVT w/8 10” speakers always sounds better than say 4-12” or 4-15”. Devastating live!

Not arguing at all, but can you explain why the frequency response on smaller subs isn't as low as on bigger ones? And doesn't that affect the sound?
