I thought the dipsticks were the same for the 60e and 80e? At least on my NBS 99 that was the case. @df2x4 also mentioned the same on one of threads...What year is your truck?

They are for a couple of specific applications that I was comparing when I was researching the 60E to 80E swap in my red '97 (4.3L C1500), but now I'm starting to second guess how accurate that is as a blanket statement for '96+ trucks. Probably best to double check on RockAuto or one of the GM parts sites (Wholesale GM Parts Online, GM Parts Direct, Nemiga Parts, etc).

I don't recall my mechanic mentioning anything about adjusting the shift cable during my swap, but it's possible he did and never told me.

@Joe Dirte Question, does it act strange every time you shift into reverse or just the first time you get in and drive it for the day? The reason I ask is I have a similar issue after the 80E swap in my red truck. If it sits without being driven for a few days the torque converter will empty back into the trans, which makes the first gear selection take a few seconds because the pump has to engage and fill the converter with fluid again. At first I thought there was something wrong with the reverse in my junkyard 80E, but after a conversation with my mechanic and some testing I determined that it didn't matter which gear I selected, it happened in every one. Reverse was just the gear I happened to use first leaving the house every time. My solution is shifting to neutral for 3-5 seconds to get the pump going before grabbing a gear if the truck's been sitting for a few days, it works great.

Yes you most CERTAINLY need to adjust that cable NOW. I dont want to sound alarmist but your manual valve NEEDS to match your shifter detents, because your shifter detents can easily hold your truck in "half reverse" between neutral or park, both are not desireable at all. Your detents most likely have to be in neutral on both the shifter and trans(there is a procedure that says for certain) and then you change the cable length to match this.
the pcm also probably needed to be reprogrammed i hope you did since it has completely different calibrations for that too.
Your transmission has an internal shiffter position thingy sensor, but your pcm uses the shifter selection as what it follows, that would set a code if it didnt match most likely, but your transmission doesnt have the code definitions onboard and its never a problem when adjusted because the shifters both get detented to the same spot, then linked by cable and that usually means they stay the same

hell, the cable may be different depending on how they differ.
It just hit me goin down the road other day cuz I know my mom's C10 the linkage is a lil off n won't light up reverse lights n it's all a Lil loose but will still engage n hold on her th350. Pcm was programmed for it and I think you may be right on the adjustment. Either neutral or drive. Had to do it with my caprice when I went from column shift to floor shift out of a bravada.

I think I need to get some gas today so I'll try that out. Think it is only first time but bein paranoid of an expensive trans failure i don't try it too much haha

The shifter cable since we don't have shift rods on the trucks. Not the TV cable. wow....

My '88 has linkage from the steering column. Its adjustable.
My '98 and my '00 Denali have cables, neither are adjustable.
However, the PRNDL switch, mounted on the tranny, is slotted.

So, how are you gonna adjust a non-adjustable shifter cable?

Probly same way as the s-trucks cables.

Never seen an S-truck with a factory LS, you must be using some kind of non-stock parts. Hard to provide factory adjustment procedure for aftermarket parts.

Unable to read posted link, must be SPAM...

Guess I cant help... sorry

On my 97 Burb you push the center plastic weird connector part out at the end of the cable where it connects to the tranny. go into the cab and move the shifter throughout it's full range like a million times and then go back under and push the plastic connector back in.

That's how it's supposed to work but it didnt work for me.

I manually adjusted it under the truck with a helper moving the shifter inside when I needed it moved from the top to the bottom.

Once I figured out where it should be was when I pushed the plastic connector back in and it worked.

it was quite frustrating actually.

(photo covered by hand above)

it goes on to state how to adjust the shifter end with that push button.

I would go to the end parts of the video(he does a replacement first) its a good resource, GM FSM and he isnt an idiot.
Procedure seems same for 4l60e(that screengrab is a 4l80e)
