I hear ya. I'm the same way, although I've only played one tape in the thing after all my efforts. Although the beauty of the aux mod is that the tape deck doesn't have to work, you only need it for the input. But there is that thing at the back of my head that even though I'll probably never pop a tape in, what if I did? OCD things I suppose.
Did you do an AUX mod yourself? I'm wanting a head start on that. No way paying $125 for a rework just for aux and looks. Schematics or instructions?

I did. Well worth the effort and if I can do it, anyone can. I think there are pics of my results in that one thread df2x4 linked. Biggest PITA & time suck was using a dremel to trim the dash panel to accommodate a factory style switch.

I'm 95+ though unfortunately there isn't much for use in that thread :(

I dug around a little and found these adapter harnesses. A little expensive IMO for what they are (and a CD/tape has to remain in the player for the AUX to work) but might be useful to someone who has a '95+ with the slave CD/cassette deck in the lower dash or a factory 12 disc changer. The CD/tape player remains functional, too. It just automatically switches to the AUX input when it detects a signal and a CD or tape is playing.

'95+ with slave CD/cassette in lower dash:

I also found a YouTube Video of someone installing one:

I haven't found anything for the '95+ radios without a slave CD player but I'll update if I do.

Thank you and great contributions on all that. My CD is remote and doesn't play and the radio plays super low, like 2 of 10 cranked up. I count 6 speakers in 96 Tahoe, should rock, does not. Like blown output stage. Bose theftlock I guess requires an unlock code which will enable at powerup. I'm going to operate.

Yeah decent product and fair price. Not as cheap as an SD, USB Bluetooth Single DIN BOSS for $37 or double DIN flip out touch screen for $68 wifi
