Today we did trunk struts, hood struts, ngk ruthenium spark plugs, ngk wires, ac belt, idler and tensioner, main belt idler and tensioner, cleaned the k&n drop in filter and cleaned the maf. My wife did most of the work while I did a bunch of projects on our friends 49 Ford and assembled a 20 ton shop press. She also became a trunk monkey! Next weekend we should have all of the clutch and tranny parts...

Well crap. We did the belt on the ac and the compressor wasn't kicking in so tonight we did an evacuate and recharge. Unfortunately our pressure was 70-75 on the high and low side with the ac clutch engaged. Compressor time...

It sucks that you need the comp, but it is cool that you are willing/able to figure that stuff out!

Another setback. On Monday my in-laws came down sick. My son had spent the previous Friday night with them. They got a hold of their doctor on Tuesday who told them to follow covid protocol and get tested. The doctor also said to get Casey tested. All 3 came back positive. My in-laws are now showing all of the typical covid symptoms (fever, headache, loss of taste and smell etc.). Casey doesn't have any signs of covid. My wife has had the covid shot already due to her health issues but I don't qualify yet. I get to spend the next 10 days in quarantine with my kiddo. I have a long list of stuff to get done so I guess that I'll get started tomorrow but unfortunately the GTO won't get a clutch until after Easter and the 49 Ford needs to get done but it is at the shop.

On a brighter note, Rockauto has a bunch of closeout parts on the GTO and although I only needed rear brakes, I bought a radiator, thermostat and ceramic rear brakes for $30.90 shipped. The radiator is a tyc so it is decent but even though I didn't need it, I wasn't going to pass it up for $3.40.

Insane value. Wow. I gotta get in on one of these "closeout" sales.

A good/bad weekend. I finally was able to get all of the parts for our friends 49 Ford and we were able to give it back to them on Saturday. They are so excited about everything that we did. The 5 speed coupled th the flathead is sweet. I was running 70 on the freeway with the old girl.

Unfortunately the GTO didn't go so well. We had the tranny out in an hour and 20 minutes. Unfortunately the pilot bearing was trashed and it destroyed the input shaft, input bearing, the throw out bearing came out in 2 pieces and God only knows what the inside looks like. Fortunately we have a T56 from an 01 WS6 Firebird. We swapped the shifter cups and checked to make sure that the new shifter would work. Then we opened up the box for the LS7 clutch and aluminum flywheel. The flywheel looked great but the box with the clutch was flat hammered. It has been re-taped multiple times. I looked the clutch and pressure plate over and found that one of the bolt holes doesn't line up. Also it looks like someone took a die grinder to the hole for the dowel pin. I'm going to call the vendor tomorrow and have them warranty the parts. What is interesting is that there was a partially ripped off shipping label from Scroggin Dickey on the clutch, I didn't get it from Scroggin Dickey...

We also ordered a remote speed bleeder from a major supplier and it didn't fit so I get to call them tomorrow as well.

We had the car up in the air less than 1500 miles ago so I was surprised to find gear lube all over the front of the pinion but it wasn't leaking from the seal. It ended up coming from the splines of the pinion yoke. I found that the nut was loose. There was less than 20 foot pounds on the pinion nut. I cleaned it up and put right stuff on the splines and torqued it down until the play felt correct.

Tomorrow we'll do the Voodoo Chicken carrier bearing and reinstall the exhaust.
