That's why my paint guy dug so hard, curiosity got the best of him when I asked him to quote me materials to spray it the same color! The best part is, they went to all the trouble to order it, and then got it with manual windows, locks, seats, 305, 28in radiator etc...

I've got a weird one too. My red '97 C1500 was custom ordered new by my dad, little kid me rode with him to pick it up when it was finally ready. 4.3L V6, 4L60E, Silverado trim with power everything, cloth buckets and vinyl floor. Definitely made some people go "huh?"

TGK RPO code = SPECIAL PAINT SOLID, USED FOR ORDERING PURPOSES. SPECIAL PAINT(TGK).
Also don't overlook some other unusual RPO's, particularly 01U

01U = "primary color, exterior, special"
YK6 = "identification, SEO (special equipment options)"

Why they would still put a regular production paint code at the bottom of the SPID I don't understand. That is absolutely not even close to "radar blue" - also - radar blue was not a regular production color for a 1997 GMT400 truck. Again though the color on his truck is definitely not radar blue. Would be interesting to see the original invoice.

Technically it's not entirely regular, it's got a WE prefix instead of the usual WA. According to some of the stuff I dug up on Google when this came up originally that's the prefix for commercial or special order colors. It is strange that everything points to radar blue except that one letter in the code, though. I couldn't find any exact matches for his code.

I agree, seeing the original paperwork would be pretty neat.

I'll see if I can dig it up, I have some of the original, but not the order sheet. So metallic dar blue is a 3 stage paint with the metallic base, pearl midcoat and the clear, so being that it was special ordered I would guess this variation is whatever the guy at GM came up with when he got the order. I think it's heavy on the pearl, more so than usual anyways, but when shoot it this spring I'll be doing an exact match and will let you guys know what formula we came up with to replicate it!

I owned a black vehicle back in the `80`s.
Said I`d never own another. I like the color, as long as someone else owns it!
When I went looking for a 400, I looked at 11 of them. 8 were black!
2 were red. Nope. Not for me. 1 was green. The vehicle I had before was a square body. Green. If you`ve ever been in one of those...that`s a LOT of green! So again...no.
When the guy I bought my blue truck from rolled the car-cover back, I lost my breath for a second! Wow! I had never seen a 400 in that color before.
Didn`t find out it was a one-year only until after I bought it, thanks to the crew on here!
The black one I had w-a-y back when. It was hard on the OCD `clean`thing!

Funny lol me.sewlow sir I had a midnight blue and frost white 86 k20,and a 78 c20 jade or forest green and frost white so I know all about that is a lot of blue or green, but I loved both paint schemes,I've also had 1 black 83 gp,1 86 regal sport coupe also black,1 87 regal limited black, and a red and black 88 s10 tahoe shortbed and had also had a black 90 dodge Dakota long bed sport,so I've also said no more black vehicles impossible to keep clean, and everything will show up on it.... Lol well played karma....well played.

1991 GMC extended cab - middle area is dark gray metallic code 9658, top and bottom are gray metallic code 8867. Separated at the top with a reddish orange pinstripe decal. I bet it looked real nice before it went to ****. :)

This truck was also a 5.7 TBI / NV3500 5 speed, power windows/locks (maroon interior with split bench), and had the fairly rare in 1991 needle gauge cluster. I actually hated to part this one out but I bought it without a title (I always ran MVR reports to be sure not stolen) and the paint was dead as could be anyway, and the dash was busted to crap. Seats were worn thin on the fabric, too. But it gave up a good engine, transmission, body parts, and much more.

The top and bottom of that I believe would be the center color on my 94.
