Oh good lord not this crap again.

"There is nothing special about the G80"

G80 being an RPO code means that in fact, it is something special. It means something. In a GMT400 truck, it means a locking differential made by Eaton and called the Gov-Loc. In some cars, it means a positraction differential. Which is where this comes in from the TSB:

"The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life."

It might take re-reading that a few times to really get it. Trucks? Use regular gear oil called for in the owner's manual. Cars? Use whatever gear oil AND additive called for in the owner's manual.
