I've got a computer and harness from a van with a 5.7/4l80. I've got a k30 cab and chassis with a 5.7, th400/205. I want to swap in a 366 tall deck and 4l80. I figure the 5.7 tbi should work with enough fuel pressure. Does anyone have a file for a 366 bbc tbi?

Interesting and unusual swap.

Once upon a time, this area had heaps and piles of 366 engines. Fewer--but still plenty--of the 427 tall-decks. They're pretty-much all gone now, long ago replaced by various diesels in the farm trucks. The 366s got cleaned-out for the forged cranks, same stroke as 396/402/427, maybe the rods, and everything else scrapped. The 427s had good cranks, sometimes good but not race-spec rods, and the blocks were sometimes cast with clearance for a 4.25-stroke crank to drop in with no clearancing needed. Everything else got scrapped.

Does your 366 have reasonable-sized valves in the cylinder heads? Some had really-tiny SBC-diameter valves.

They had decent sized valves for what they were. It runs good. All the crap got crushed or I would pull a computer from the junk yard for the file. If I can't find it I'll just keep it carbed and use the th400

The 366 I have experience with replaced a 180 hp low compression 350 TBI 350 in a 1995 class C RV G30 cutaway dual rear wheel van. The 366 was a low mileage TBI engine from a 97ish school bus. Those later 366s had dome pistons and shared the same small oval port heads as the 427. Used a 454 throttle body and air cleaner and the stock 350 computer. It ran on the 350 tuning well enough to get it running and driving and then tuned the computer from there. The 366 ran far better than the 350 ever though about. The 366 TBI was net rated like 240 hp and 360 tq and gained a bit from the exhaust setup used on that RV. Dual 3" off the manifolds (used 454 G30/P30 manifolds) to a merge Y and single 3.5" pipe to the muffler. It was probably making 260-280 hp and 380-400 ft/lbs as installed and ran great with a 4L80E and 4.10s behind it. It was not a hotrod but ran cool when pushed hard, ran well on cheap 87 octane and had a big performance increase compared to the 350.

Thanks for the info. The one I have is out of a late 70's school bus. I believe it has closed chamber oval port heads and is low miles but carburetor. I want to replace the tired 350 in my 86k30. Cab and chassis and get an overdrive trans and fuel injection. Make it easier for the wife and kids if they have to use it to plow snow. I guess I need to learn how to burn chips
