Man you are very knowledgeable! I know enough to understand most of what you said but I by no means know that much! I would suggest that you copy that info that you worked hard to type out into somesort of a guide that hopefully could be stickied. That kind of a detailed explanation would be a shame to waste.
SQ always has a degree of subjectivity and nobody has conceived a meter that can measure SQ. Mostly because all of the above components of SQ must be taken into consideration and many of them aren't easily quantifiable. From what I know (I've never actually competed in a SQ competition but...) they are a judged event where judges will listen to a predetermined test disk that contains many high quality tracks that each emphasize different qualities of a good system. The judges have listened to these disks on many different and very Hi-Fi systems and know what they "should" sound like and can judge accordingly. I'm sure Cablguy184 knows more than me but that's how I understand that a SQ competition works.
So how is SQ judged at a competition? I know for SPL they use meters. Do they have meters that measure SQ or is it just determined by the judges ears?
