The very reason the boot installation tool has become so popular. If you catch the torn boot in time before the grease is tossed out (wrecking your CV joint) you're better off re-booting your original axle.

It wasn't that, the car made a noise around a corner that sounded like a wheel bearing but new wheel bearings didn't fix it. Axles didn't leak, but were sloppy at 180k.

Okay i ll do the job my self dosent look to hard. Been reading up on it. I want new axles and seals and axle bearing Thinking of
Timken for bearing what axles should i go for?

Having the gears set up and rest redone at a shop will be around $600 with you supplying the parts. Thats what a local place qouted me, even with the rear out of the truck.
