Yep, I had to go through that years ago. Now there's an R12 substitute. You want cold air, just throw propane in it! YMMVIt used to require some formal training and a license to even purchase the real deal.

That stuff is roughly 50/50% Propane/Isobutane mixtureI used some stuff called R-12A or R-12 synthetic brought my old system back too life

Now that the temps have dropped into the 90s my system blows 33-34°F before the compressor cycles. It was in the low 40s, upper 30s when it was 105°F outside.
