Nv3500 not engaging reverse switch

Replaced the failed reverse switch in my 96 k1500 with a 5 speed manual transmission, but the reverse lights don't turn on unless I push the shifter to the passenger side firmly. What is the part in the transmission called that is worn, and can it be repaired/replaced without completely disassembling the transmission?

Check the grommet on the linkage at the transmission where is connects to the selector switch.

Selector switch? My truck is a 5 speed manual, I don't think it has one. My guess is there's a linkage in the transmission that presses the reverse switch that is worn out
