well, i've found another L31 that I may pick up and build that on the side for now. now just have to figure out how I want to build it. I like the 350/445 numbers that a decent range a little less would be fine also.. but not thinking much more.

how hard is it to swap in a 6.0 from a 2000 2500? thought on it? found a good running one for cheap so might go that route.. still undecided though

I would second the motion of NOT dropping in a 383 (or 6 liters if youre Canadian) in a daily driver....
they take 91 octane or above and they redline at about 8,000 RPM... more than what your torque converter, ignition, fuel system, etc etc was designed for.

so unless youre racing, really think you would be happier with a 350 roller cam block, lighter weight aluminum heads, and maybe a few other little things... headers and stuff... the swap would go much easier =)
just a good breathing smog-dog engine that will torque its way through anything and run forever.

:nono: 383 are not just high rpm race motors. GM makes a drop in 383 replacement for L31's. No other changes required....

oh yeah... the block for an OBDII vortec V8 is basically a 383 block... just built different.

that roller cam though sure frees up a lot of horses =)

If anything a 383 is a low torque monster. I make max power at 5k rpm

This is not only unnecessarily confusing since he mentioned a 6 litre in another post (which is an entirely different motor), your calculation on the motor size is wrong. I am Canadian and no one refers to a 383 as a "6 litre".

6 litres = approx 366 cubic inches.

Anyways, I'd still recommend sticking with the 5.7. Pretty darned good motor for daily driving IMO.
